Tips For Staying Under Your Data Cap

Manage your data and stay connected for the moments that matter.

Every Tracfone service plan comes with a certain amount of data usage. Data isn’t the same as minutes for calling and texting. Instead, phones use data for things like accessing the web and using apps. Sometimes staying under the limit can be hard, especially if you love using your phone to stay connected. But here are some tips that can help you manage your data better and stretch it farther each service period.

Use Wi-Fi whenever you can

With Wi-Fi, you can browse the web all you want without having to worry about exceeding your data cap.

There are two different ways to use the Internet from your phone: mobile Internet and Wi-Fi. Mobile internet is the one that uses data, so it’s best to reserve that for times when you really need it. Instead, use Wi-Fi. You probably have Wi-Fi setup at home that you can connect your phone to. Plus, many public places offer free Wi-Fi. When you take advantage of Wi-Fi, you can browse the web all you want without having to worry about exceeding your data cap.

Try streaming less

Did you know that streaming* music, movies, and podcasts drains your data? If you love listening to music on the go or watching Netflix from your smartphone, you might want to consider cutting back. But you don’t necessarily have to. Some music streaming apps, such as Spotify, allow you to keep listening offline. You can also download content to have on your phone in place of streaming.

Turn off automatic app updates

This is typically the default setting within smartphones, meaning your apps will automatically update whenever something new becomes available. Apps update and sync pretty frequently, and when they do, they use up a lot of your data. It’s better to turn auto off and update them manually when needed. It’s different for every phone, but you can usually do this by going into your app store or into your phone’s settings folder.

Pay only for what you need at Tracfone

With help from these tips, you can stay within your data limit and only pay for what you need. If you have any data leftover, it’ll actually carry over to next month. If it seems like you’re always going over your cap, consider switching to a different Tracfone service plan that offers more.
