You can stretch your phone battery by turning on power saving mode.
Worried your phone battery might run out before you can get to a charger? Simply activate power saving mode to help your battery last longer. Most modern phones come with this feature built in. In this blog post, Tracfone will show you how to use it and go over exactly what it does. So the next time your phone’s power level gets low, you’ll be prepared.
Power saving mode: iPhone
In power save mode, Apple devices will slow down, change, or temporarily pause the following:
- E-mail fetch
- “Hey Siri”
- Background app refresh
- Automatic downloads
- Certain visual effects
- Auto-Lock
- iCloud Photo Library
Otherwise, you can still use your phone normally all while conserving power. There are two different ways to turn on power save mode on an iPhone. The first way is to go to Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode. The second way is to use the automatic prompt. When your battery drops to 20% or 10%, a prompt will automatically appear on the screen asking if you want to turn on Low Power Mode.
How can you tell if you did it right? Check the battery indicator at the top of the screen. If it’s yellow, you know that power save mode is officially on.
Power saving mode: Android
Power save mode on most Android devices will slow down overall performance and restrict the following:
- GPS and location services
- Vibrate
- Background data sync and usage
- App refresh
Aside from having access to GPS, you can still use your cell phone just like you normally would. To turn the power save feature on, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Saver. You can also tap the gear icon or battery icon in quick settings to get there.
If you want, you can modify the battery saver settings. You have the option to change brightness, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Live wallpapers, and more. Like iPhones, Androids can also send you screen prompts reminding you to turn on power saving mode when the battery gets low.
